From the beginning of September to the beginning of October the Marie Curie Charity Marathon Car made an epic journey from John O’Groats to Lands End. The idea was to visit every Branch of the Morris Minor Owners Club, and there are over 60, as well as all the Marie Curie Hospices, go to the Isle of Mann, the Isle of Wight and Northern Ireland.

The Charity car visited us on 18th September at our chosen venue of Taverham Nurseries. Here along with the North Norfolk Branch, we held a day long event, where we collected for Marie Curie with the help of the Norfolk Fundraiser, Hugo Stevenson. Our grand total for the day was £107-60.

Radio Norfolk have a programme on a Sunday morning called Treasure Quest that involves the presenters solving a clue with the help of the people of Norfolk and there can be up to 6 clues in the programme to solve. We were Clue 2 and we were to hide the envelope for Clue 3. This was hidden in Tricia Loades lilac Million.

Altogether we had a total of 17 cars on display between us and the North Norfolk Branch. Many people were interested in our cars and some came along to look after hearing us on the Radio. Hugo, Brian Norton and Tricia were all interviewed on the radio and the presenter Sophie took a shine to our members John and Carolyn Hancock’s dog Marmite. Marmite is a chocolate Labrador and he had his photo taken in a Marie Curie hat. One lady had heard about him on the radio and came along especially to see him.

On the day we were also joined by the MMOC Chairman John Frye, who lives just down the road as well as Branch Liaison Officer Rosie Hamilton.  The car arrived at 1pm driven by members of Cambridge Branch and stayed with us until 3pm. Then it was our turn to drive the car to Halstead for the Essex Branch’s turn to have it. Our member Chris Mitchell drove it all the way with Martin Wallis accompanying him. We thank them both very much for all the miles they travelled that day.

In total, we raised over two years, a grand total of £650-00 for Marie Curie.  We have sent this into the MMOC and they will be presenting a grand total of all the branches fund-raising to Marie Curie at the Classic Car Show at the NEC in Birmingham on 13th November. We would like to thank all of our members for their help in raising the funds and supporting our events this year.
