For our meeting our Vice Chairman, Sian Charlton, took the chair. Our Chairman Mary and her husband Terry were absent as their car was being used for a wedding at Scole church. When we left the meeting we saw Mary with the car and the Bride and Groom having photos taken.
After the business part of the meeting was over we had invited Pip Wright to give us a talk on “Frolic, Fervour and Fornication”. This was actually on some of the comments in Suffolk church parish registers that Pip had researched. The parish registers were given to each village to fill in during the reign of Elizabeth 1 from 1598 to record births, marriages and deaths.
During Pip’s research he had come across other articles that had also been recorded in the registers. One such case was of a lot of births being described. The father of all of the babies was the same which did include his own wife as having given birth. The note by the vicar said that the father was a very busy man! (Or words to that effect!).
We started our 2017 fundraising with a pub card and we raised £21-55. The winner was Al Chapman, so well done Al.
