Ahead of our Annual General Meeting we invited back Colin Farrington from SERV Norfolk Blood Bikes to collect a cheque on their behalf from our Branch fund-raising. We presented Colin with a cheque for £400, money raised from November 2017 to October 2018.
Along with £18 from regalia sold last November and a collecting tin taken to events during the year of £9-65 we raised a total of £427-65. So well done to our members who helped raise this amount. Not only did they raise this amount, of course they also raised £85 for Prostate Cancer UK, £53 was donated from a raffle to the Memorial Museum at Thorpe Abbotts, making the total for the year £556-00, a magnificent amount.
Colin spoke to us about what had happened to Norfolk Blood Bikes during the last year. He told us that they now have a fleet of new bikes and cars that they make their deliveries of blood and baby milk in during the winter. He also told us that they now make deliveries of blood for the East Anglian Air Ambulance and are working with Herts Milk Bank to try to get a stock of baby milk delivered in Norwich.
We then held our AGM and the Committee were voted back in. We discussed our events for 2019 and finished off the meeting with Mary’s delicious cakes. We held a raffle at this meeting and raised £36 with a further £14 for refreshments, adding to our fund-raising total for the RNLI with £50.
We received a thank you letter from Norfolk Blood Bikes thanking us for our donation and selecting them as our charity of the year. They said that this amount would help fund the monthly running costs of the bikes and cars currently allocated to service the local hospitals and Air Ambulance. Our money could fund around 40 days fuel for one bike as their total running costs are £3800 per month and the service is carried out by volunteers like Colin.
