We had been invited earlier in the year to join the Classic Car Show and Family Fun Day at Elsing Hall near Dereham in Norfolk. It was an event in the grounds of Elsing Hall to raise funds for the local church. There were around 80 to 100 cars in attendance including two rarely seen Rolls Royce estate cars. The weather was very hot and we secured a spot under the trees with plenty of shade. The event was the first of it’s kind at Elsing Hall. There were plenty of crafts stalls dotted around the edge of the field and you could get plenty of things to eat. There was a bar and a second hand book stall, plus the local fire brigade had brought along their fire engine, which was popular with the children. There were displays from the local dance group and a dog show was also held during the afternoon.
We had eight cars from the Branch attend and we were all able to park together. This event fell on Father’s Day and one member had his family come and join him. Amanda Hazlett also brought along her family with her brother driving another of her cars from her collection. We picked up another member on the day, as Andrew Doubleday joined us with his Series II Saloon. Andrew was the car marshall of the day.
Carolyn and Tricia went round the field and managed to fill the remaining squares from the picnic. They were all parts of the body and we asked the organiser Jackie Norton to draw a square for us. The winner was P_n_s! Of course it would be!. The winner was the sister-in-law of Andrew Doubleday and she received £20 with the £80 going towards our charity total for Upbeat.
Some of us looked around the gardens around Elsing Hall which were open as part of the National Garden Scheme that day. And they were beautiful, especially the gardens round the moat around the hall. A lovely day out for members to a different event.
