10th July 2022 – Mid-Suffolk Light Railway, Brockford

We had been invited to the Mid-Suffolk Light Railway at Brockford to join them on one of their open days. We picked one of the hottest days to make the visit, but we had a very good turnout of Branch members on the day. On arrival we were given wrist bands so we could ride the steam train for as many times as we liked. We were asked to bring along our own mugs, and they very kindly laid on free refreshments all day for us.

There were displays we could look at, steam train rides to be had and walks that could be taken around the site. We did have shade in the form of a couple of tents. We were joined by Steve who travelled with Maria from Essex Branch and we met up with our very new members, Pam and Nick, who only live a few short miles down the road.

Norman brought along Bluebell for her first outing after he has been restoring her. Many members read Branch News in Minor Matters and a couple of members who own a Million came along as they were on holiday. As luck would have it Tricia and Jimmy had brought Lillian along and were shown photos of the Million 60 + 1 rally in May in Wales. We were also joined by a past member who was able to join us. Guy is a vicar of the local parishes and as his main work day is a Sunday he can’t always join in.

We held a Football card for fund-raising which was won by Chris, who very kindly donated his winnings of £10 back, so we had a total of £40 raised for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. In the end we had a total of 18 cars on display.
