21st April 2024 – Drive It Day

Our Drive It Day run this year was organised by Branch members Matthew and Claire Ling. The starting point was Notcutts Garden Centre, Woodbridge and there were 13 vehicles down to join us, but on the day there were 17. We had four join us on the day. One was a modern car as one member had problems with his Traveller, but managed to get there just before we left. We were handed a route of our proposed run and set off a little bit later than Claire and Matthew’s departure time.

Our next stop would be Snape Maltings where most of us parked together behind the Maltings and enjoyed a cup of tea/coffee. There were lots of people here, as there was a coach load of people visiting, which meant we were late again with the proposed departure time! Then we were off again along the lovely Suffolk countryside with all the Spring colours along the way.

We passed the shell on Aldeburgh beach, saw the House in the Clouds and mere at Thorpeness and ended up at Dunwich Beach car park. Some members arrived before the advanced party, as apparently they had gone down a different route but couldn’t get through the road because of a gate! But we all made it in the end and at Dunwich enjoyed either a picnic, lunch at a nearby pub or had fish and chips at Flora Tea Rooms. Although there was a long wait, because the coach from Snape was there and they hadn’t booked!

We had two new members join on the day and we held a football card to fund raise for the National Coastwatch. The winner of this was Phil Allen who won £10, so well done to Phil. Thank you to Claire and Matthew for compiling the run for us and we hope to do a run on Drive It Day again next year.
