For the last few years the Morris Minor Owners Club has been holding a Minors on Tour within the United Kingdom. This is run along the lines of the Minors On Tour trips abroad, when there is a week of events held somewhere in France. This year the UK version were having a week at West Runton and took over a camping site for the duration. There were various trips laid on during the week including one to Sandringham.
As our Branch covers Norfolk, as well as Suffolk, we were invited to join the visitors on 12th July at Sandringham Visitors Centre, by the organisers Bill and Lesley Hewlett. A number of our members met up at various places along the way and drove to Sandringham in convoy. This was one of the times that we were marred by rain, and despite a forecast of sun, it sadly didn’t make an appearance for very long.
During the next hour or so we were joined by around fifty Morris Minors with cars from the North Norfolk and West Norfolk Branches as well as the members who were on holiday for the week. We met up with other members from around the UK we have met over the years along with Rosie and Sandy Hamilton.
In total we had eight of our Branch members attend this event. Some of us took the opportunity to have a look around the House and gardens as well as the Church and visitor centre. There were a number of Royal vehicles on display that had been used at Sandringham over the years. There had been a christening at the Church that morning, but not THE christening!
We ended the day listening to the Dereham Band playing outside the visitors centre. Thank you to all those members that attended. We saw two of our newer members during the day.
