Drive It Day April 2015

On 26th April 2015 nine vehicles gathered at our start point of Morrison’s Supermarket at Diss. These included six Saloons (one being a Million), one traveller, an Austin pick-up and a Morris Marina; belonging to Mary and Terry Huggins, Jacky and Brian Lloyd, Sheila and Albert Lain, Ian Hamilton and Mandy Webb, Gordon and Angie Leaver, Tricia and Jimmy Loades, Dick and Wendy Talbot, Chris Mitchell and Martin Wallis.

Here Jacky and Brian handed round our route for the run to Granary Craft at Buxhall. The weather was dull and cloudy, but thankfully we only had one or two spits of rain the whole day.

Our route took us on the A1066 Thetford Road to Garboldisham where we took the B1111 to Stanton. Along the way we passed Bressingham Steam Museum which was the venue for a Drive It Day stop last year.

From Stanton we headed to Woolpit which took us past a pink Morris Minor at a Pine Furniture Shop at Norton. Not in a very good state!

We took a route through some very pretty villages of Norfolk and Suffolk until we reached our destination at Buxhall. We explored the bygones and collections at Granary Craft, browsed their gift shop and had a welcome cup of tea and a slice of cake in their cafeteria.

When we arrived one of our members, Andrew Bingham’s van was already placed in the car park. Andrew’s in-laws own Granary Craft, but we didn’t see Andrew. We were kindly allowed to hold a raffle here to add to the fundraising for Cancer Research.

Just after lunch we were joined by Clive Mees in his convertible, who lives just down the road. So in all we had a total of 11 Branch cars out on Drive It Day. During the afternoon we were joined by another car club called The Jolly Boys and Girls Club.

Then just as we were leaving the East Coast Retro Club paid a visit to Granary Craft after spending some of the day at Stonham Barns.

Thank you goes to Jacky and Brian for organising the trip and also to all those members who turned out with their cars on Drive It Day and who brought a raffle prize.
