Our member Amanda Hazlett attended this event as she had her convertible displayed on one of the stands. Here is Amanda’s report.
The NEC in November saw me on the Women Drivers Social Club stand with Lilac Linda. We were celebrating women drivers from pre-war who raced across Europe and Brooklands. These included Betty Hague who took a low light Minor on the Monte Carlo Rally with two other women and Kay Petre who held a record for driving a V12 Delage at 134mph in 1934 round the Brooklands track. Well worth a Google search to read about these amazing women.
The Morris Minor Owners Club were celebrating Minors being exported around the world. The Club had reproduced a Canadian Minor (Sandy Hamilton’s car) in a shipping crate as seen in the photographs. The stand also had Minors that had travelled from the US and Andora. The Young Morris Minor Members also had a red-carpet display and the Morris Minor Owners Community Club had four Minor Millions on show. The LCV Club were also there with a super display of commercial Minors.
Visiting the NEC is not a cheap weekend, but I try to go each year as there is so much variety on display and traders to see. It is a celebration of our hobby and I also catch up with members and friends before the winter break.
