We had a good turn out at this meeting and when the Committee were voted in we had only one change. Our Vice-Chairman is now Wendy Talbot. We welcome Wendy to the Committee and thank our out-going Vice-Chairman, Sian Charlton for all that she has done for us during her reign in office as well as before that.
We discussed our events for the rest of the year and 2017 and you can see what we will be up to in the Events section. Our Treasurer, Jacky Lloyd, told us that our accounts are in a healthy position and we decided to carry on fund-raising for 2017 when we will be collecting for Suffolk Accident Rescue Service.
Following the business side of the meeting we had a talk from Hugo Stevenson from Marie Curie. Hugo is the Norfolk Fund-raiser for Marie Curie. He told us that there are 33 nurses in Norfolk and 2100 in the whole of the country. Last year they looked after 31,500 patients around the country in their homes as well as at Marie Curie’s 9 hospices.
Last year there was 1.2 million hours of care with one hour of care costing £20 and a night costing £180. Marie Curie don’t only look after cancer patients they look after people with all sorts of terminal illnesses. Hugo told us that their hospices are happy places.
We held a raffle which raised £50 and we then donated this to Marie Curie via Hugo. This then brings our total raised for Marie Curie over two years to £725-00. We also donated a prize of a shopping voucher to the MMOC grand draw and donated £650 to the MMOC for their Marie Curie total. We presented a big “mock” cheque to Hugo for publicity purposes.
