Before our meeting started we were able to present a cheque to Stuart Edmunds from Lowestoft Lifeboat for the sum of £600. Stuart thanked us for our fundraising for them and said he would let us know what they would spend the money on.

We then welcomed Margo Harrison from Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and her dog Linus. Margo explained that she has 20% hearing left and is now classed as profoundly deaf, which is caused by an underlying health condition. Her dog Linus is a Blue Rowan Cocker Spaniel and is her second hearing dog, her first being Pebbles who sadly died suddenly.

Margo told us what Hearing Dogs for Deaf People do as a charity and what the dogs do for their owners. Linus has been trained to tell Margo when there is someone at the door, or a member of her family want her or most importantly when the fire alarm goes off.

Margo was accompanied by her son and husband, who has a Morris Minor called Polly that Margo refers to as his “Mistress”. We donated £40 to Margo for her talk and along with sales of merchandise she brought along of £23-50 and £14-27 in the collecting tin, a total of £77-77 was raised.

After tea and cake, kindly supplied again by Jackie Smith, we held a Football card which was won by Nigel Baker-Querelle; well done Nigel. With £30 from this and £13 from refreshments, a total of £43 was raised for East Coast Truckers.
